So now you're contradicting all the times you've said that I'm wrong so far. I'm only addressing the "downloading is legal, uploading is illegal" myth itself, nothing more. How can it be "the wrong message" if it's true? Again, I'm not talking about any actual likelihood of facing any consequences.

Saying it's illegal sends the wrong message. I didn't say anything whatsoever about the actual likelihood of "getting in trouble." I only stated that unauthorized downloading of pirated copyrighted material is illegal, which is objectively true, whether it's done via P2P or DDL. Oh ok, so I assume you have gotten in trouble for downloading something that wasn't a torrent?ĭon't strawman me. Keep in mind, this is the USA Im talking about but pretty sure this is pretty standard. DDL absolutely will not get you in trouble in the USA, but torrent trackers are honeypotted at the time and the uploaded files get taken down if the dev or copyright holder finds it and puts in a DCMA cease and desist against the site but nobody even gets notified for downloading anything but P2P torrents and magnets. This is why you use a VPN or premium link unlocker like alldebrid when you download p2p and why no one gives a shit getting the same file off 1fichier, gdrive, mega, or a website. To download a torrent/magnet ( even if you shut off upload) you're still uploading tiny bits of the movie/game/software which is the illegal part and why your ISP sends you notices for torrents/magnets only.

Which is why direct downloads are ok with your ISP but torrenting is not.
